La BlackBerry de hoy en día no es la BlackBerry de hacen 8 a 10 años definitivamente, pero son muchos los que darían lo que fuera para obtener y mantener la colección de patentes que la canadiense es dueña actualmente y esta semana hay celebración en Waterloo.
La empresa BlackBerry confirmó esta semana que un jurado federal resolvió a favor de BlackBerry en torno a una demanda de patentes con la que se enfrentaba a la firma Mobile Telecommunications LLC (MTel).
La demanda originalmente era en contra de BlackBerry donde MTel afirmaba que se les estaba violentando sus derechos al ser dueño de cinco patentes relacionados a las telecomunicaciones.
Pero la tortilla se viró cuando la Corte Federal de Texas dictaminó que dos patentes eran invalidas para considerarse legítimas, otra no se comprobó que era violentada, otra patente no estaba realmente definida para considerarse si fue violentada o no y la otra patente, se trataba de métodos de comunicación entre una unidad móvil y una red móvil.
BlackBerry naturalmente, quedó complacido con la determinación de la corte y que se defenderán vigorosamente de demandas como esta.

BlackBerry wins U.S. patent infringement lawsuit brought by Mobile Telecommunications LLC
Waterloo, Ontario – July 22, 2016 – BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB), a global leader in secure mobile communications, today announced that a federal jury ruled in favor of BlackBerry in a patent infringement case brought by Mobile Telecommunications LLC (MTel) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The verdict was a sweeping victory for BlackBerry, as the jury found that BlackBerry did not infringe the MTel patent at issue.
MTel originally claimed BlackBerry infringed five patents. Prior to trial, the Court found that two of the patents were directed to non-patentable subject matter, that BlackBerry did not infringe one of the patents, and that one of the patents was indefinite. The patent in-suit covered a two-way communication system for communication between a system network and a mobile unit.
“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict,” said Steve Zipperstein, Chief Legal Officer at BlackBerry. “We will continue defending BlackBerry vigorously against meritless lawsuits.”
